As part of a “Prescription for a Healthier, Active Life” for children and families, the American Academy of Pediatrics to encourages these four basic components of the 5210 program:

  • Eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day.
  • Limit screen time to 2 hours or less per day.
  • Get 1 hour or more of physical activity every day.
  • Drink fewer or 0 sugar-sweetened drinks.

At home activities are just as important as regular exercise. You need to challenge your kids to do some fun, at home activities. It is very easy to get a good workout while being in the comfort of your own home.  Healthy Lee wants to make sure you and your family is getting as much exercise as possible, both in and out of the house.   • Create an obstacle course
  • Have a scavenger hunt
  • Collect bugs
  • 3-legged races
  • Wash the car
  • Plant a garden
  • Have a fashion show
  • Create a movie or a play
  • Hopscotch
  • Freeze Tag
  • Red Light Green Light
  • Build a fort
  • Play and walk with your pets
  • Go for a swim
  • Play interactive games (twister, hide and seek)
  • Play catch
  • Have a hula-hoop or jump rope available. Use them for 5 or 10 minutes at a time throughout the day
  • Go for a walk around the block with your children when going to check the mail
  • Play fun games while watching TV
  • Play around the house
  • Dance around the house
