As much as you don’t want to admit it, you always feel great after a workout. You actually feel so great, that exercise has been found to treat a major depressive disorder. In a recent publication of the Journal of Psychiatric Practice, which is geared toward clinicians, doctors and researchers outline the necessary amount of exercise for patients to say goodbye to those antidepressant effects.

Researchers concluded that you should do aerobic exercise or resistance training for 45 to 60 minutes three to five times per week. Aerobic exercise -running, biking, walking- should be at about 50 to 85 percent of max heart rate. For resistance, something like weight-lifting, the workouts should target both upper- and lower-body muscles, and intensity should be three sets of eight repetitions at 80 percent max.
