Streets Alive! was created to incorporate fun, fitness and food to promote healthier lifestyles by temporarily closing streets to motor vehicles and opening them for people to have fun and get active.
The first Streets Alive! event was held on November 10 and drew hundreds, as it included:
• A fun and festive setting where participants were encouraged to have some human-powered fun — walking, biking, jogging, Zumba, hopscotch, skateboarding, street games, jump rope, yoga, dancing and more — along a 2-3 mile route.
The Streets Alive! has future plans for not just this one event, but regular events throughout the year and throughout the county that become part of the community— something people put on their calendars and make a routine part of their lives.
Healthy communities are good for business and business development, creating a quality of life that benefits current residents and businesses as well as attracting new people and enterprises to our community.
