James Orr, M.D., Medical Director for the Lee Memorial Health System Regional Cancer Center, has been named among the prestigious “Top Cancer Doctors 2015,” a list of physicians from across the country featured in of Newsweek. Dr. Orr is the only physician in Lee County to be named to the esteemed list.

Newsweek “Top Cancer Doctors 2015” is a list of over 2,600 leading cancer specialists across the country compiled through peer nominations and extensive research conducted by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Each year, Castle Connolly receives nearly 100,000 nominations via this process, and after a careful review of credentials, the physicians are selected to be a part of the Newsweek list. .
James Orr, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., F.A.C.S., has been certified by the American Board of Obstetrics since 1983, and earned a subspecialty Certification in Gynecologic Oncology shortly after in 1984. A member since 2010, Dr. Orr is the immediate past Chair of the Florida Board of Medicine.
Dr. Orr has led a distinguished career with many leadership and professional accomplishments; most notably, his role on the development of the Regional Cancer Center, collectively one of the largest cancer programs in the state of Florida. Located in Fort Myers, The Regional Cancer Center offers patients treatment for nearly every aspect of their cancer care under one roof. It draws its strength from a patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach achieved through an unprecedented collaboration among Lee Memorial Health System, 21st Century Oncology, Florida Cancer Specialists, and Florida Gynecologic Oncology.
Dr. Orr has also published more than 120 peer reviewed articles, four textbooks, and 33 chapters in scientific textbooks, as well as served as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and the American Journal of Clinical Oncology. Previously, Dr. Orr served as President of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the Florida Society of Gynecologic Oncology, and the Florida Obstetrical and Gynecologic Society.
In addition to the Newsweek 2015 Top Cancer Doctors recognition, he received the Saks Fifth Avenue Humanitarian Award for his compassionate efforts in Gynecologic Oncology, as well as the “Best Doctors for Women” distinction from Good Housekeeping magazine.
