girlstretchingThe promotion and adoption of physical activity is an important initiative of Healthy Lee. There are many types of exercise activities with a multitude of benefits. Mixing up your exercise can provide you with improved flexibility, balance, strength, and endurance.

Below you will find examples of different types of exercise activities available for your fitness plan:

  • Aerobic activities make you breathe harder and your heart beat faster. Aerobic activities can be moderate or vigorous in their intensity levels, and range from 60-85% of your resting heart rate. A general guide to use: For moderate activities you can talk, but you can’t sing. With vigorous activities, you can only say a few words without stopping to catch your breath.
    • Types of aerobic activities:
      • Walking fast
      • Cycling
      • Dancing
      • Swimming
      • Tennis
      • Elliptical, Stair Climber, Stepper
  • Muscle-strengthening activities make your muscles stronger.
    • Types of muscle-strengthening activities:
      • Lifting weights
      • Working with resistance bands
      • Yoga
  • Bone-strengthening activities make your bones stronger and are especially important for children and adolescents, as well as older adults.
    • Types of bone-strengthening exercises:
      • Jumping ropes
      • Heel drops (Stand on the balls of your feet while on a step and lowering your heels to the floor. Repeat 10 times.)
  • Balance and stretching activities enhance physical stability and flexibility, which reduce the risk of injuries.
