The American Cancer Society says: “Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap!”.
What does that mean? Summer is HOT, muggy and sunny. Here in southwest Florida, most of our exercise takes place in the water with activities, such as swimming and kayaking. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, but it is also one of the most preventable. Before you go outside:
• Slip on a shirt
• Slop on some sunscreen
• Slap on a hat
• Wrap on some sunglasses
You should also reduce the amount of time you spend outside during the hottest hours of the day and be sure to reapply often. Don’t forget that you need to protect your skin when the clouds are in the sky, too.
Thank you to our Healthy Lee partner, Goodwill industries of SWFL, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Cancer Society for this information.
