DEDICATING EVENT TO FALLEN OFFICER, ADAM JOBBERS-MILLER
Healthy Harvest Community Farms has announced its Summer of Fit Festival Series, a free family event in Lehigh Acres (670 Milwaukee Blvd.) for all ages and fitness levels. A 501(c)(3), Healthy Harvest Farms is a community garden project that provides healthy alternatives, nutritional education and sustainability to Southwest Floridians and others in need.
The full-day events start with a 7 a.m. 5K registration and 8 a.m. 5K kickoff (5K DEDICATED TO OFFICER JOBBERS-MILLER). Fresh breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as fitness and cooking classes, raffles, live music, dancing, games, arts and crafts, a giant Slip ‘N Slide and much more, will follow the 5Ks. Live music will end at 10 p.m. Package options are available for the 5K, and donations are appreciated. This rain-or-shine series is also pet-friendly, as Healthy Harvest has plenty of shelter for waiting out Southwest Florida sun showers.
Saturday, August 4 Grease Lightning’ (1950s-themed day)
Saturday, September 1 Tropical Labor Day Weekend Extravaganza (luau-themed day)
Established in 2014, the projects mission is to educate and promote a clean and healthy lifestyle for everyone, regardless of economic limitations. Harvests are donated to community food banks throughout the year, via donations and sponsorships
“It appears that very few people understand where their food is coming from or what is in it,” said Joe Pearson, Founder and CEO of Healthy Harvest Farms. “With obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes on the rise, our goal is to reintroduce to the community the notion of homegrown food, what it looks like, how it is grown, and how to incorporate it into diets in order to live a healthier life.”
